What would you want people to know about you?
That the work that I do and the skills I have to be able to interact with both professionals and community on the same level has to come from God and that I thank him for them. I feel honored for God to trust me with such a gift. It can get intimidating sometimes, but when I reflect back and realize that other people depend on how well I advocate on their behalf, I give it all I have.
What is your favorite part of your job at East Central Ministries?
The feeling of knowing that I am making a difference in many people's lives, especially for some of the most vulnerable.
How is your job important to our community, your family and yourself?
Our community depends on how good of an advocate I can be. I believe that the position where I am at right now, has given me an opportunity to grow the Health Center and bring more needed services to our community. My family, oh the other hand, benefit with my earnings by making sure they have their needs met. Also, they see me as a role model and the work that I do, influences them to also develop a heart for the most vulnerable community. My job is important to me because it has given me peace in an everyday of stresses. I love the peaceful feeling I get as I walk into the health center.
What makes you happy when you wake up each morning?
It makes me happy to know that God has given me another chance to be better than the day before. Also, to see my children's faces as they get up and start our crazy routine.
If you had a million dollars, what would you change about our community and about yourself?
I have always dreamed about winning the lottery, (I think this is the only way I would have at least a million dollars). As I daydream, I always see me paying off each of my family's debts, especially their mortgage. I also, dream of distributing large quantities of money to non-profits who work to support the community. I tend to pay really close attention to non-profits' work to form an opinion on whether they walk the talk. The problem with this is that I tend to run out of money almost immediately.
If you were a bird, where would you fly?
I would fly to a peaceful place like the forest. Sometimes I feel like I need to be more in touch with nature.
What kind of office supply (stapler, pen, etc) are you most like and why?
I think I would be a post it because I need a lot of reminders... but maybe also a sharpener because I get an idea and need to sharpen it ot make it come to life like a sharpener does to a pencil. It needs the lead sticking out to be able to start functioning.
A penguin walks in the door at ECM wearing a cowboy hat, what does she say and why is she here?
She probably would say "I'm looking for the pastor John. I heard of the good work that gets done here. True community driven work and would like to help in whichever way you man need."
