East Central Ministries, Inc. (ECM) is a holistic, inclusive community development organization dedicated to fostering and supporting community needs through program development driven by the community in Albuquerque’s International District.  ECM is building on 25 years of experience in both providing direct service programs and building partnerships for greater community impact. In addition to the current programs, ECM is building a community coalition  focused on creating innovative solutions to affordable housing on vacant properties in our neighborhoods.

The Common Good Thrift Store is an essential strategy for ECM’s successful work.  It was started by ECM in 2012 staffed with all volunteers to financially support ECM’s community development  endeavors  and increase ECM’s network of supporters and partners by sharing our story.

Position Title: Thrift Store Assist Manager

Employment: 20 hours a week, exempt 

Schedule: 2-3 days a week between Tuesday-Saturday

Salary: $18-$19/hour pending experience

Probationary Period: 90 days

Primary Responsibilities: 

  1. To ensure the Common Good program goals and operations are being accomplished in alignment with ECM’s mission and vision

  2. To manage and oversee the daily operations of the store

    1. Support and fill in when needed for the Store Manager 

    2. Manage volunteers who are the primary staffing for operating the store 

    3. Evaluating and managing the efficient inventory process of donations through sales

    4. Supporting a welcoming enjoyable “store atmosphere” that makes customers want to return 

Qualifications:

  • Reliable and eager to learn

  • Motivated attitude 

  • Strong interpersonal relationship skills

  • Strong customer service skills (preferred)

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Strong problem-solving skills

  • Moderate physical exertion (lifting, standing, etc.).

Duties:

The duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Managing the volunteer schedule, working with the ECM Volunteer Coordinator as needed.  Reviewing the schedule for each week, and trying to fill gaps as soon as possible (i.e., calling “On-Call volunteers,” calling current volunteers to take an extra shift, etc.).

  2. Training and observing new volunteers, working with the ECM Administration Staff as needed.

  3. Opening and closing the store each day.  While other volunteers may assist with opening/closing tasks such as turning on lights, taking out trash, etc., only the Store Manager or Assistant Manager or specifically trained and authorized volunteers should count the cash. 

  4. Counting and delivering the deposit to the bank. Only the Store Manager or Assistant Manager or specifically trained and authorized volunteers should count cash and make the deposit.

  5. Overseeing sales, promotions, marketing campaigns, and fundraisers.

  6. Overseeing cleanliness and efficiency of the store, delegating volunteers to fulfill tasks as needed.

  7. Overseeing volunteer conduct and the atmosphere of the store, and addressing conflicts as needed.

  8. Reviewing sales, adjusting store pricing, merchandise, etc. accordingly.

  9. Picking up additional Growing Awareness merchandise as needed.

  10. Ensuring that the store is telling the story in collaboration with ECM. This could include creating visual aids, ensuring that fliers are stocked, keeping updated with what is happening at ECM, etc.

  11. Responding to customer feedback through Google, Square, Yelp, Facebook, etc.

  12. Managing the store email account, checking voicemails and responding to phone calls.

  13. Purchasing store supplies as needed.

  14. Print/revise forms and signs as needed.

  15. Update price guides as needed.

  16. Email update.
